What’s open and closed during the holidays 2023

All seven of Georgian’s campuses (including the downtown Barrie location) will close for the 2023 holiday season on Friday, Dec. 22 at noon and re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.

Some areas will continue to offer service (remotely or in person) or have adjusted hours during this time. These are outlined below.

Athletic and Fitness Centres

  • Barrie Campus:
    • The Barrie Athletic & Fitness Centre will be closed as of Friday, Dec. 22 at noon and will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.
  • Orillia Campus:
    • The Orillia Fitness Centre will be closed as of Friday, Dec. 22 at noon and will re-open on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.
  • Owen Sound Campus:
    • The Owen Sound Fitness Centre will be closed as of Friday, Dec. 22 at noon and will re-open on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.

Career and Employment Community Services (CECS)

  • Service across all three locations (Barrie, Orangeville and Orillia) will be available virtually on the following dates:
    • Wednesday, Dec. 27 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
    • Thursday, Dec. 28 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
    • Friday, Dec. 29 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
  • Aside from remote service on the dates listed above, all locations will be closed as of Friday, Dec. 22 at noon and will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.

Domestic student recruitment

Food services

  • Barrie Campus:
    • The Last Class (TLC) will be closed as of Monday, Dec. 18 and will re-open on Monday, Jan. 8,  2024.
    • The First Class Café (TFC) will be open Monday, Dec. 18, Tuesday, Dec. 19 and Wednesday, Dec. 20 (8 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). TFC will then be closed as of Thursday, Dec. 21 and will re-open on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.
    • The Marketplace Cafeteria will be open between Monday, Dec. 18 to Thursday, Dec. 21 ( 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and Friday, Dec. 22 (8:00 a.m. to noon). The Marketplace will then be closed and will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.
    • Subway, Tim Hortons and Coffee Conspiracy will be closed as of Saturday, Dec. 16 and will re-open on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.
  • Orillia Campus:
    • Tim Hortons and the Cafeteria will be closed as of Saturday, Dec. 16 and will re-open on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.
  • Owen Sound Campus:
    • The Cafeteria will be open from between Monday, Dec. 18 to Thursday, Dec. 21 (8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) and Friday, Dec. 22 (8:00 a.m. to noon). The cafeteria will then be closed as of Dec. 23 and will re-open on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.
    • The Last Class (TLC) will be closed from Monday, Dec. 18, and will re-open on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024

Georgian Stores

  • Georgian Stores will be closed for in-person shopping as of Friday, Dec. 22 at noon.
  • The deadline for online ordering before our holiday shutdown is Tuesday, Dec. 19. Orders placed after the deadline will be processed in the new year.

International Centre

  • The Segal International Centre will be closed as of Friday, Dec. 22 at noon and will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at 8:30 a.m.

  • Support for international students arriving in Canada during the holiday break:
    • Arrival Assistance: Explore the Pre-departure page on our website, offering a wealth of information to facilitate your arrival in Canada.
    • Student Portal: Use the MyGClife student portal to find answers to many common questions before reaching out to departments for help.
    • Download iCent: Download the iCent app from Google Play or the Apple Store for additional guidance during your arrival, including recommendations for short-term accommodations.
    • Airport Pickup and Transportation: Check the Airport Arrival page on our website for a comprehensive list of transportation resources within your campus community.
    • Emergency contacts: For travel emergencies only, email transitionsupport@georgiancollege.ca. This account will be monitored once a day during the holiday closure.
    • Program change requests, SIN applications, deferrals, withdrawals, etc., are not emergencies. Please wait until the college reopens to contact us with non-emergency questions.
