Meet the team
Katie Sleep, Manager, Conference and Event Services
Katie holds a bachelor’s degree in Tourism Studies from Brock University, a Teaching and Training Adults certificate from Georgian College and is currently on track to complete a Master of Arts in Leadership at the University of Guelph in 2019. She has more than 15 years of experience in conference and event services, having started as a banquet server during her university years and then worked her way up to the position of Senior Manager, Conference and Banquet Services at Blue Mountain Resort where she worked for 10+ years. Katie joined the Georgian team in 2015 and is excited to have the opportunity to work in the same place where the hospitality industry’s future leaders are being trained. Katie has also project managed the Georgian College Auto Show since 2016, and has thoroughly enjoyed working directly with students to plan and execute the college’s largest community event.
Angela Bertram, Co-ordinator, Conference and Event Services
Angela Bertram is a Georgian College graduate with a diploma in Hotel and Resort Operations and a graduate certificate in Human Resources Management. She is currently working towards her business degree. Prior to Georgian, Angela’s career took to her various food and beverage and administrative roles at Casino Rama, the Best Western Highland Inn and Horseshoe Resort. Angela loves the hospitality industry and thrives at the opportunity to take unique ideas and transform them into memorable events. While a student at Georgian, Angela always hoped her career would see her return to the college where the faculty and staff are passionate about student and community success.
Kirsten Spencer-Arscott, Co-ordinator, Conference and Event Services
Kirsten has a Bachelor of Arts degree with specialization in Psychology from Nipissing University. After graduating, she moved to Barrie and completed a graduate certificate in Event Management from Georgian College. Before taking on the role as a conference co-ordinator, she worked in various customer service roles across the retail and food service industries, including co-managing an ice cream parlour. She’s always been drawn to the idea of event planning, which allows her to put both her organizational skills and her creativity to good use. She loves working at Georgian because she loved school and now gets to work with students, faculty and staff every day. Her favourite events to work with are those that support the student community, such as networking nights and professional panels.
Cassandra Ecclestone, Conference Assistant, Conference and Event Services
Cassandra graduated from Georgian College with a diploma in Business – Marketing. Following that, she taught marketing concepts in southern China to international management students, and worked as an event co-ordinator in a hostel in Peru. That inspired her decision to return to Georgian to study Event Management. Scheduled to graduate in April 2019, Cassandra enjoys learning the industry from the inside as a co-op student in Conference and Event Services. After finishing this program, she hopes to use her training to travel the world. Her favorite events to work are ones that benefit Georgian students.
