Program description
The Entry Level Seafarer micro-certificate is a comprehensive training program designed to equip individuals with the essential skills and certifications required to begin an entry level position on board vessels in the marine industry.
This program focuses on providing foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary for safe and efficient operation, ensuring compliance with international standards, and includes the following: STCW Basic Safety Training (BST), STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (PSC), Marine Basic First Aid (MBFA), and Vessel Personnel with Security Responsibilities (VPWSR).
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Micro-Certificate: Entry Level Seafarer and Transport Canada recognized training certificates which meet the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.

What will you learn in the Entry-level Seafarer micro-certificate?
Fire Prevention and Emergency Response
Gain essential knowledge and skills in marine emergency duties, including personal survival techniques, fire prevention, firefighting strategies, safety procedures, and the principles of personal and social responsibility in emergency situations at sea.
Basic First Aid
Learn how to respond effectively to medical emergencies on board. Topics include controlling bleeding, performing CPR, managing shock, and administering basic first aid—vital skills for ensuring the safety and care of crew and passengers.
Survival at Sea
Develop proficiency in the use of survival craft and rescue boats during marine emergencies. Training includes understanding the construction and equipment of survival craft, launching and recovery procedures, rough-weather handling, distress signaling, and overall operation during life-threatening situations.
Ship Security Awareness
Understand the roles and responsibilities of vessel personnel within the framework of marine security. This training prepares participants to perform security duties in accordance with the Vessel Security Plan, including identifying threats, maintaining situational awareness, and supporting shipboard security protocols.

This Entry-level Seafaring Micro-certificate is currently being offered exclusively to Ontario jobseekers through a program being administered by the Canadian Marine Careers Foundation (Imagine Marine).
