How to survive your first week at Georgian
Aug. 28, 2018
The first week of college can be nerve-wracking, chaotic and fun! Here are quick tips on how to make the most of your experience:
Go to Orientation
If you’re thinking about skipping it, don’t. Orientation is a great way to familiarize yourself with the college, meet people and get important info that will help with your studies.
Get your to-do list done
Knock off anything you haven’t done yet — like pick up your books or get your ONEcard.
Arrive early
The last thing you want to do is drive around and around the parking lot, or be late for your first class.
Organize your life
Get an app or old-school planner to help keep track of assignments and activities outside the classroom.
Find a sweet study spot
There are great spaces to read, work on assignments, or even take a short nap.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Faculty and staff are here to help you every step of the way with career advice, study skills, financial aid options, making your way around campus, and more.
Familiarize yourself with Georgian’s services
Walk around campus and see all we have to offer.
Take care of you
Self-care is so important — whether hitting up the gym, getting enough sleep or making time for hobbies.
Explore on your downtime
Georgian’s campus communities have something for everyone — from cool restaurants and places to shop, to gorgeous hiking trails and waterfronts.
Get involved
Georgian is home to many clubs and hosts tons of activities. Do a little investigating and see what fits with you.
Did you know you can get recognition for most activities and enhance your resumé with the co-curricular record?
Be yourself
Enough said.
