Georgian celebrates third annual Research, Innovation and Scholarship Day
April 19, 2018
Students, faculty and community partners displayed their innovative research-related and changemaking projects, papers and posters at the third annual Research, Innovation and Scholarship Day on April 12 at the Barrie Campus.
“This event demonstrates the importance of cultivating a mindset of inquiry,” says Dr. Mira Ray, Director of Applied Research, Centre for Applied Research and Innovation. “The college is involved in a wide range of research, from technology, to health and wellness, to the arts, and to social sciences, and as we grow the research culture at Georgian, it’s important to share and celebrate the work done by our students and faculty.”
The event was a great opportunity to learn about Georgian’s recent designation as Canada’s first changemaker college.
There were keynote presentations on the environment by Rod Muir, Waste Diversion Campaigner for Sierra Club Canada, and Ashley Wallis, Program Manager (Water) for Environmental Defence Canada.
Meghan Muise and Lindsay Haley, owners and founders of RIPE Juicery, spoke about minimizing environmental impacts through a circular economy.
Guests had the opportunity to buy, sample and taste various items at a new pop-up market, featuring items created by clients from the Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre.
They also got lost in a book nook, unleashed their inner creativity at an Indigenous art workshop, and caught a glimpse of the future at the Innov8 technology showcase.
