People of Georgian: Meet Jacqueline Limoges

Collaborating with others is something I really enjoy.

Currently, I’m working with an interprofessional research team from Waypoint and RVH to explore how the pandemic is influencing healthcare providers and their clinical practices.

We hope the insights we gained can support healthcare providers during this difficult time and for pandemic recovery.

To extend the findings from our pandemic study, we joined with another research team studying mindfulness and developed a short video about empathy strain and self care.

As a registered nurse, researcher and faculty member at Georgian, I am motivated to develop and teach knowledge for nursing practice.

Taking Georgian’s health research international

As the research lead for Georgian’s Health, Wellness and Sciences academic area, I’ve been able to forge networks of collaboration with other researchers and healthcare organizations. I’ve completed some really interesting projects with colleagues here at Georgian and beyond.

For example, I’ve collaborated with researchers from Denmark to study how technology can support student learning. We explored how virtual connections between students in Canada and Denmark could support global understanding of health, wellness, health care and nursing practice.

I am also committed to applied research. I’ve published two papers explaining how applied research can benefit the health disciplines and I use applied research methods for my studies.

I listen to healthcare providers talk about their practice and their challenges, and I use those ideas to develop research projects that answer clinically relevant questions.

My goal is to try to create at least one publication from each study, hoping the findings can benefit others with similar concerns.

‘Precision healthcare with genomics is the future, and nurses want to be prepared’

I am quite involved in research ethics as the vice chair of the Ontario Cancer Research Ethics Board. On this board, I engage with the interprofessional team involved in cancer research. This work led me to my current focus on supporting nurses to engage with genetics and genomics.

I founded the Canadian Nursing and Genomics group with a colleague, and we have a steering committee guiding the Canadian initiative.

Precision healthcare with genomics is the future, and nurses want to be prepared.

I try to use my research to benefit Georgian, our students, and ultimately the nursing community.

The research infrastructure at Georgian is growing, so this is a really exciting time to be a researcher here.
