Need a recharge over the holidays? 10 activities to try
Dec. 21, 2021
This time of year is unique to everyone and often brings a variety of emotions for people. Remember to be kind to yourself and others.
We hope you can take some time for yourself over the holidays to rest and recharge.
Here are some self-care ideas you might want to try on the break:
- Curl up: Make a blanket fort or cozy nook, then hide inside it with a good show or book. Rest is good for your mind, body and spirit.
- Write it out: Did you know the bullet journal is a mindfulness practice disguised as a productivity tool?
- Practise saying no: Our boundaries are important and this time of year can be overwhelming and busy. Check out our boundaries post on instagram.com/mhwbgc.
- Get creative: Try a new recipe. Colour or paint. Pick up an instrument. Document the holidays through photos. Spend time on hobbies. Aim to reach that state of flow which can positively impact your well-being.
- Curate a new playlist or turn up the tunes and dance: Research shows there are psychological benefits to music, including reduced stress, improved mood and pain management.
- Engage in play: Build a snowperson, try out a new board game, throw a ball in the yard, have fun with Lego, blow bubbles, or go tobogganing. See how play can impact you and your relationships.
- Handwrite a thank you letter to a loved one or friend: Check out these 14 health benefits of practising gratitude.
- Spend time outside: A study from 2019 shows nature may make us happier and healthier because it inspires awe.
