Interior Design students take home awards at the DVA Scholarship Show

Every year the Design and Visual Arts (DVA) Scholarship Show showcases the top students from across the academic area, all vying to win over $30,000 in awards. With awards supported and judged by industry partners, this show is an excellent opportunity for all who are chosen, to display their work to potential employers and experts in their field.

Students in the Honours Bachelor of Interior Design and Interior Decorating Diploma did not disappoint this year, taking home eight awards for their innovative projects.

The 777Design Avenue Scholarship for Excellence in Interior Design was presented to Cassandra Haire, a first-year student who has demonstrated exceptional spatial skills in the design of a sculpture gallery and the development of retail space using the principles of rhythm, unity, emphasis, proportion, scale and balance. Determination of the award recipient is based on the results of Scholarship Show jurying.


The first ARIDO Art Appreciation Scholarship with Doner-Turrin Inc. is awarded to Katelyn Vahi, a first-year student. Her submission on a local interior design firm in Midhurst, ON has won her the inaugural scholarship, and a grant from Doner-Turrin Inc.

The Global Contract Scholarship for Excellence in Interior Design is presented to Kaitlyn Cannell, a third-year student who has demonstrated artistry and accuracy in innovative space planning, form development, and documentation of a large scale corporate space and a health and wellness facility. Determination of the award recipient is based on the results of Scholarship Show jurying.


The JAS Interior Design Scholarship for Interior Design Excellence is presented to Tristen Ireland, a third-year student who has communicated through the imaginative use of presentation and documentation methods to her original and diverse and creative design solutions using advanced technology to produce modeling, rendering and industry standard contract documentation. Determination of the award recipient is based on the results of Scholarship Show jurying.

The Olympia Tile and Stone Scholarship for Excellence in Interior Design was presented to Wil Eisses, a second-year student who has demonstrated inspirational design solutions applied to the development of a residential project and a restaurant venue incorporating appropriate aesthetic, functional, and sustainable applications to the selection and specifying of all surface treatments.  Determination of the award recipient is based on the results of Scholarship Show jurying.


The Quinlan & Co., Ltd. Award for Interior Design Excellence is presented to Leanne Hollingworth, a first-year student who has demonstrated exceptional skills in the development of form and interior space utilizing well detailed, diverse and creative design applications. Determination of the award recipient is based on the results of Scholarship Show jurying.

The Redman Watson Scholarship for Excellence in Interior Design was presented to Danielle Horsfield, a first-year student who has displayed innovative design solutions in the creation of public and private space, incorporating the elements of shape, light and form, with specific design criteria. Determination of the award recipient is based on the results of Scholarship Show jurying.


The Sherwin Williams Scholarship for Interior Design Excellence is presented to Madison Taylor, a third-year student who has demonstrated inspirational design solutions to large scale public spaces enhanced by outstanding applications of conceptualization and colour theory in her projects. Determination of the award recipient is based on the results of Scholarship Show jurying.
