Varsity golfer Matt LeMay has been on an incredible North American run this spring.

An incredible nine-day stretch that included four consecutive match play wins over the past three days came to an end Thursday night for Georgian varsity golfer Matt LeMay.

The Waterloo native had strung together victories over Brad Wadsworth, Tyler Hull, Ben Snaidero and Davis Kuksis before finally falling to Jake McNulty in the Ontario Match Play Championship’s semi-final on June 9.

Since last Tuesday, LeMay has played a total of 186 holes, crisscrossing from British Columbia to Ohio to Huntsville. He made the nine-hour trek from Ohio to Huntsville overnight on Monday, winning six and four despite his sleep deficit.

The Golf Management degree student finished in a tie for 26th at last week’s Canadian University/College Championship, followed by a 44th-fourth place tie at the U.S. Sectional Qualifying event. He was grouped with a pair of PGA tour pros at Qualifying in Ohio, including the world’s 76th-ranked player in Kevin Streelman, and finished with the eighth best score of all amateurs.

An exciting 2016 season awaits Georgian’s Golf program, as the college will host the 2016 OCAA Provincial Championship as well as the Grizzlies Annual Invitational. With LeMay, the reigning CCAA National Bronze Medalist, leading the way it is shaping up to be an incredibly successful year as well.
