Georgian students host fairytale tea party to support grieving kids

After losing her dad at a young age, Honestie Slessor felt alone in her grief until she went to the Seasons Centre for Grieving Children in Barrie, where she was surrounded by support.

“My dad died on April 1, 2020. Going to Seasons once a week helps kids with their grief of losing someone. We have a whole group who experienced something just like me. I feel comfortable and not alone when I am in the group,” she says.

To support the charity and clients like Hill, the community is invited to A Sip of Royal-Tea, a fundraising event on April 6 that is hosted by Georgian College’s Event Management students as part of their capstone project. All proceeds from the event will go to the Seasons Centre.

Two children in dresses sit outside at a table covered in a teapot and cups and they sip from teacups.
A Sip of Royal-Tea takes place on April 6 at Georgian’s Barrie Campus.

Dress in your finest royal attire and bring your kids to this family-friendly tea party. Hairstyling is also being offered for $5 by students in Georgian’s Hairstyling program.

There will also be crown and wand making, storytelling, photo opportunities, a raffle, and a royal parade through the hallways at Georgian toward a teatime lunch featuring traditional and kid-friendly food options.

Agenda for A Sip of Royal-Tea on April 6:

  • 10:30 a.m. to noon: Crown and wand making, nail and makeup stations, and royal storytelling time.
  • Noon to 12:30 p.m.: Royal parade and seating for royal teatime lunch.
  • 12:30 to 2 p.m.: Royal teatime lunch, with charity guest speakers and announcement of raffle winners.

The aim of the event is to give children a magical experience, as they sip tea from fine China and partake in delightful arts and crafts amidst a fairytale setting. This event is designed to create cherished memories, allowing little ones to feel like true royalty.

We believe in the power of community and the impact of supporting organizations like the Seasons Centre for Grieving Children. A Sip of Royal-Tea is not just an event – it’s an opportunity for families to come together, have fun, and contribute to a cause that truly matters.
