Top five reasons to become a paramedic
Purpose-driven work – You’ll get to help people during some of the most critical moments of their lives and provide potentially life-saving care before patients reach the hospital. Every day, you’ll serve the community in meaningful ways.
Fast-paced, dynamic career – As a paramedic, no two days are the same. The work is unpredictable, but you thrive in chaos and know how to think quickly, solve problems and stay calm under pressure.
Exciting medical experience – Not only do you learn people skills as a frontline health-care worker, but you also apply science, pharmacology and emergency medicine to real-world situations. You’re the first at the scene to assess the patient and use different trauma treatment techniques.
Work in a close-knit team – While you work closely with other paramedics, you’ll also interact with firefighters, police and hospital teams to care for patients. It’s a supportive and collaborative industry where everyone shares a common goal to help others.
Career stability and pathways – There’s a strong demand in Ontario for skilled health-care professionals, and whether you choose to be a life-long paramedic or consider pathways to further education, there are lots of related careers that you could use your experience toward.
