Georgian offering free upgrading in Newmarket

Georgian’s Academic and Career Preparation (ACP) program is now offering free upgrading courses in math and communications to Newmarket and area residents hoping to go back to school or advance in their careers.

Continuous intake has already started for math and communications (reading and writing), and computer and science courses will be added in the fall. In keeping with direction from provincial and public health authorities during COVID-19, all courses are being delivered online through Georgian’s established remote delivery systems and include phone and email support, as well as the use of Georgian’s learning management system (Blackboard) and other remote learning technologies such as Webex, Skype and Microsoft Teams.

“We respond to our learners’ needs and available technology to ensure they are able to connect with their teachers and move forward in their learning,” said Cathy McRae, program manager. “We are really happy to be joining the Newmarket community. As soon as we are able, we will be delivering in-person services in the community at various locations convenient to learners.”

Funded in part by the government of Canada and the Government of Ontario and through the Canada Ontario Job Fund agreement, College-sector upgrading programs, like ACP, focus on postsecondary, apprenticeship and employment preparation. The courses are free to those who qualify and most (except sciences) offer continuous intake to allow students to sign up when they want and work at their own pace.
