Rapid Antigen tests required for partially vaccinated

Update as of Oct. 29, 2021

Only persons with the conditionally approved status on the Safe@Georgian app are eligible for COVI-19 rapid antigen testing after Nov. 1, 2021. If you have questions about your app status, please contact campussafetyservices@georgiancollege.ca.

Original announcement about COVID-19 rapid antigen testing on Sept. 3, 2021

To further protect students and employees from potential exposure to the highly transmissible Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health Ontario, issued instructions and a framework for fall semester this week that must be implemented by institutions providing postsecondary education in Ontario.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 7, in addition to the requirements specified in our COVID-19 vaccination procedure, persons who are partially vaccinated, meaning you’ve only had your first dose or your second dose was within the previous 14 days, are required to take a COVID-19 rapid antigen test at minimum, once every seven days, to be able to attend any campus or facility owned, operated or controlled by the college.

Those who are considered fully vaccinated, having received both doses, with a second dose more than 14 days ago, will not be required to undergo COVID-19 rapid antigen testing.

We appreciate this is unexpected. If you’re required to be on campus, and are partially vaccinated, plan to arrive at least 45 minutes earlier to allow time for the test and await the result before you’ll be allowed to proceed.

Thank you if you’ve already uploaded your proof of vaccination to the Safe@Georgian app. However, if you only have one dose or have had your second dose less than 14 days ago, your status within the app will change. The app is being revised to accommodate this new requirement and ambassadors on site may direct you to the testing area based on the status displayed on the app.

Check your Georgian email regularly for updates, plan to arrive early and follow directions once on campus. The college appreciates everyone’s patience as we work through this change.
