Maria manages the second largest RBC branch in the Ontario North East (ONE) office, where she oversees a $1.1-billion portfolio. She’s also an avid volunteer with a number of children’s charities and community organizations within RBC’s ONE region.

Although she was recently named one of Ottawa’s Top 40 under 40 business professionals, Maria says that being the co-founder and co-chair of a number of internal RBC committees is just one of her many career highlights.

They include, among many others, co-founding and co-chairing the RBC’s ONE Women’s Employee Resource Group and Next Gen Employee Resource Group, and leading the development of a mentor recognition program for the ONE region.

Maria says she is inspired by the spirit of reciprocity and a calling to lead and teach others. She does this by volunteering in her spare time outside of work.

“I was provided with a breadth and depth of experience and exposure both as a student and early on in my career, and I want to make sure that young professionals have the same kind of opportunities I had and really inspire them to achieve their own greatness,” says Maria.

She adds that spending so much time volunteering on her personal time doesn’t detract or impact her job performance, it enhances it.

“Encouraging others is rewarding, and my career is far more fulfilling as a result,” she says. “I’m happy doing what I do and I think it reflects in my work.”
