4 simple ways you can brighten up your home

We’re all spending more time at home these days and by now may be getting a wee bit tired of looking at the same four walls. We asked Mary Dobson, a professor in our Interior Decorating program, for some easy ways to brighten up our living spaces.

  • Put your favourite chair in a sunny corner. We can all use as much sunshine as we can get. Whether you’re working or relaxing, it’s bound to lift your spirits.

  • Add or change out an existing centrepiece on your dining table. Shop from your home and grab pieces from another room. Doesn’t have to be fancy but look for something eye catching. A grouping of almost anything looks interesting if all placed together on a tray. Pick a colour or a theme.

  • Cut branches from any flowering shrubs in your yard and stick them in water. Forcing blooms is a great way to hurry spring along.

  • Hang out your linens. If you’ve got a clothesline or other way to hang items like pillow cases, you can get that wonderful fresh scent you never can from a dryer sheet.
