Oct. 22, 2015
Child and Youth Worker* students at the Orillia Campus are creating positive change!
They are taking part in some amazing projects this semester as part of the Community Projects Initiative through Georgian’s Centre for Social Entrepreneurship.
Here are some highlights:
- Youth Haven Barrie: Students are engaging with youth and staff at the shelter to jumpstart a proposal for a social enterprise that will allow youth to gain employment skills while also supporting Youth Haven’s programs.
- Orillia Museum of Art & History: Students are working with the Youth Arts Council to develop unique workshops for the group and to collaborate on the OPP graffiti project.
- Patrick Fogarty High School: Students are working on an initiative to give high school graduates the opportunity to investigate careers and industries before heading off to college or university.
- Sweet Charity Medical Assistance: Students are helping develop a draft manual to streamline the organization’s program and processes.
- Canadian Mental Health Association – Start Talking About Coping and Drugs: Students are again collaborating on this initiative, with this semester’s focus on family resources for youth in life transitions and how they cope without using illicit drugs.
- Georgian College summer camps: Students are working with the Part-time Studies and Workforce Development team right on campus to develop curriculum for the up-and-coming CSI summer camps at the Orillia Campus.
