Photography grads capture memories for low-income families

It’s about giving photos, not taking them.

Three recent Georgian alumni will use their photography talents to host the second annual Giving Portrait on May 4.

Kim Annand, Joseph Smith and Emma Morrone came up with the idea for The Giving Portrait last year for their business course. Wanting to give back to their community, they invited low-income families and individuals into Georgian’s photography studio to receive complimentary portraits.

“We wanted to give people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford professional photography the chance to receive a unique and memorable portrait” says Annand.

They captured everyone from high school graduates, to a newly engaged couple, to families and beloved pets. They enjoyed the project so much they’ve decided to do it again.

Members of the public are invited to book appointments for The Giving Portrait on Saturday, May 4 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. All participants will receive an 8×10-inch printed portrait and up to 10 digital images.

The photography studio is located in Georgian’s Arch and Helen Brown Design and Digital Arts Centre at 5 Ross St. in downtown Barrie.

Pre-registration is required. Book online at thegivingportrait.org.

The event organizers are thankful to their sponsors, including Goodwood Contracting, John Rogers Law Firm, Michele Gordon Law Office, John Winter Law Office, and Annand Law Office.
