Georgian Pre-Health students tackle social justice issues

As part of community service learning projects, Pre-health Sciences students have been busy planning and organizing a number of awareness campaigns in collaboration with various community partners.
Campaigns include:
The REDress Project
- In collaboration with the Georgian Bay Native Women’s Association
- Art exhibit to promote awareness of the missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada
Paint the Campus Purple/50 Shades of Purple
- In partnership with Athena’s Sexual Assault Counselling and Advocacy Centre
- Creating conversations around violence against women
- Engaging the Georgian College community to stand up for gender equity
Warmth for the Winter
- In collaboration with Youth Haven
- Raising awareness about homelessness and youth
Faceless Dolls Project
- In collaboration with the Native Women’s Association of Canada (and in conjunction with Georgian’s Christina Meredith and the Indigenous Resource Centre)
- Raising awareness of the missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada
I Pledge for Mental Health
- In collaboration with Georgian’s Karyn Baker and Student Success
- Breaking down barriers and reducing stigma around mental health for college students
Empty Shoes Project
- Raising awareness about the risks of drinking and driving
- Paying tribute to lives lost through drinking and driving
- Collecting shoes in good condition to donate to local shelters
Adopt, Don’t Shop
- In partnership with the SPCA
- Developing a video to encourage pet adoption
Climb for Equality
- Hosting a wall climb to promote equity on campus
Raising the Bar Against Sexual Assault
- In partnership with The Last Class
- Educating and raising awareness of violence against women and consent
Music for Memories
- In collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Society
- Collecting iPods and music for individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease
