The Barrie Police and Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit partnered with Georgian to host a free medication drop-off event for the community on Friday, March 23 at the Barrie Campus. The event also included a Naloxone information clinic for students.
Georgian’s Pharmacy Technician students had the opportunity to speak with community members about the importance of safe medication storage and disposal as they dropped off their old and expired medications. The students also collaborated with a local pharmacist to facilitate students’ access to Naloxone kits. One-on-one training was made available to students who were interested in acquiring a kit.
“This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to give back to the community through supporting a safe and healthy environment for the public, as well as participating in public health initiatives such as Naloxone awareness and education,” said Toni Cano, Co-ordinator of the Pharmacy Technician program.
“We hope that the success of this program will inspire our students to continue to drive positive social change within their own communities as they graduate and start their pathway to becoming regulated pharmacy technicians.”
