Top 5 reasons why you should dispose of your prescriptions safely and properly

Georgian’s Pharmacy Technician students are collaborating with Barrie Police and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to host a free medication drop-off event for the community. They will also take the opportunity to speak with community members about the importance of safe medication storage and disposal as they drop off old and expired medications.

The students put together their top reasons why it’s important to dispose of your old prescriptions in a safe and proper manner:

  1. Reduces the chance of taking expired or unused drugs accidentally
  2. Prevents the misuse and abuse of prescription medications
  3. Reduces harmful environmental effects in soil and water
  4. Ensures that drugs do not end up in the wrong hands
  5. Protects family, friends and pets

Do you have old and expired medication at home? Bring it to the Barrie Campus on Thursday, March 21 (between 9 a.m. and noon). The prescription drop-off location is outside the Sadlon Centre for Health, Wellness and Sciences (M building) at the City of Barrie Police Command Post.
