Positive COVID-19 case at Barrie Campus

Dear Georgian community,
Georgian was informed on Wednesday, Dec. 9 of a positive COVID-19 case involving a member of our Barrie Campus community. The individual was on campus in the culinary lab on Wednesday, Dec. 2 and Friday, Dec. 4 in E building. We wish them a full and speedy recovery.
Out of an abundance of caution, students in these labs have been advised that remaining in-person classes for those programs only have been cancelled for this week and the following week of Dec. 14. Online classes will continue. Students and employees in these affected programs have received specific instructions from their dean or faculty via their Georgian email or Blackboard account earlier today.
Georgian is working with the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) regarding this case. Those deemed to be in close contact with the individual who tested positive may be contacted over the coming days.
There’s no need for Georgian students or employees to self-isolate, unless advised to do so by public health, however, if you feel unwell, please do not come to campus. Complete the online self-assessment, or contact Telehealth Ontario at 1.866.797.0000 or your health-care provider and follow their instructions.
Everyone must remain vigilant
COVID-19 is present in our communities and there’s always a risk of infection any time you’re in a public space. That’s why we’ve implemented strict health and safety protocols to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, including entrance screenings, mandatory face coverings, physical distancing, and enhanced cleaning. Public health has confirmed these are the exact measures we should be taking in order to reduce the risk of transmission during on-campus activity.
