News release: College full-time support staff now on strike across Ontario Georgian College classes continue, campuses open
Sept. 11, 2025
The full-time support staff (FTSS) bargaining unit of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) went on strike this morning at 12:01 a.m., affecting all 24 publicly funded colleges in Ontario. Their contract expired on August 31.
Approximately 465 support staff are now on strike at Georgian College. Faculty, librarians and counsellors are members of a different bargaining unit and are not on strike.
All Georgian College campuses remain open, and all classes for students are proceeding as scheduled.
Those coming to any of Georgian College’s campuses are advised to leave extra time for travel, as information picket lines may cause delays accessing the college.
The College Employers Council (CEC) bargains on behalf of all colleges in the province while OPSEU represents all FTSS at Ontario’s 24 colleges. More information about bargaining and the issues related to this strike can be found at the CEC website.
A dedicated Georgian College webpage containing strike-related updates and frequently asked questions about the strike has been developed for students and the public at georgiancollege.ca. The page will be updated throughout the labour disruption with new information as it becomes available.
“Georgian College is eager to see this labour dispute settled as soon as possible with an agreement that’s fair and affordable for colleges and employees alike,” said Georgian College President and CEO Kevin Weaver. “Our goal at Georgian is to ensure our students continue their learning. The entire Georgian College community is eager to return to what we do best: leading, innovating and creating exceptional experiences for our students.”
