New app to improve service
Aug. 20, 2018
Late August and early September are busy times for the Office of the Registrar. Students have faced lineups to talk to registration and financial aid officers about everything from course registration to OSAP. Georgian aims to reduce wait times with myVisit, an app allowing students to get service tickets – and save their place in line – on their phones, up to an hour before they arrive. The app is available at Barrie, Orillia and Owen Sound campuses.
Here’s how to save time and beat the line:
- Download the myVisit app on Google Play or the App Store.
- Open the app within an hour of your arrival on campus.
- Choose your campus and service area.
- Enter your student number (the first time only).
- Click “OK, I will be there” to save your spot in line and get a ticket number.W
- When you reach the Welcome Centre on campus, click “I arrived.”
- Watch and listen for your ticket number to be called, then go to the appropriate station for help.
Once a student has a service ticket in the app, their place in line will be held for up to 60 minutes. Because the Office of the Registrar closes at 4:30 p.m., myVisit will stop issuing tickets at 3:15 p.m.
“We hope myVisit will reduce lineups and frustration during peak service periods,” says Jason Duffy, Senior Integrated Services Officer. “Students can use their wait time to get to campus – or get a coffee – instead of waiting at the Office of the Registrar.”
myVisit is part of a broader effort by Georgian to improve the student experience by responding to feedback. Other improvements include renovations, additional campus restaurants, longer library hours, and consolidating services on one student card.
