Mark Ihnat is new Dean, Centre for Teaching and Learning

Mark Ihnat is the new Dean, Centre for Teaching and Learning at Georgian. Mark will begin the role on Aug. 23.
Mark is a passionate digital learning professional with more than 18 years of experience in higher education.
He joins Georgian from Humber College ITAL where, most recently, he held the position of Associate Dean, Digital Learning. In this role, Mark was responsible for faculty support and development specifically when it came to the college’s Learning Management System (LMS) and faculty digital fluencies, managing LMS student supports, overseeing the design and development of over 100 online courses, and deploying and implementing the college’s campus-wide digital student feedback questionnaire.
He was instrumental in several key initiatives including:
- migrating the college’s LMS
- leading several provincially funded online program builds
- overseeing several groundbreaking extended reality projects
- co-designing a teaching and learning inspired ‘Cutting EDge’ research initiative
- developing a Student Learning Kit in response to the college’s rapid move to remote learning, and
- collaborating with multiple stakeholders in developing a 10-step migration plan supporting faculty as they moved their courses online
Mark has served on various committees, including chairing the eLearning Committee and co-chairing the Student Feedback working group.
Mark has a solid reputation throughout the college sector. Over the past 18 years, he has held positions as a faculty member, program co-ordinator, director, and associate dean. At the provincial level, he has been an active participant within OntarioLearn as the central region Board of Directors representative and has been the chair of the provincial wide Educational Technology Committee since 2017.
Mark holds an MA in sociology from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University, and a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of Ottawa.
