Kick start your future with a Get Help to Go Back event at Georgian College on Aug. 15
Aug. 3, 2017
When Wendy Warren-Timpano, a busy mother of four, wanted to make a career change in her 50s, she knew she wanted to get out from behind a desk and into the nursing profession.
“Going back to school was the best decision I ever made,” said Warren-Timpano, who finished her first year of Practical Nursing at Georgian’s Barrie Campus. “It was also a difficult decision, but with the changing job market, I knew nursing was my best prospect for employment. And even though I was terrified to jump in with younger students just out of high school, and probably smarter than I was, I was determined to put my best foot forward and finally do what I always wanted to do.”
Warren-Timpano said going back to school as a mature student was a bit daunting, but Georgian made the process an easy transition. “Everyone is extremely friendly and eager to help,” she added. “I wish I had investigated how to get my missing high school credits to get into the nursing program sooner. But, better late than never.”
Are you looking to return to school as a mature student and have questions? Visit the Barrie Campus from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15 for the Kick Start Your Future – Get Help to Go Back event.

Staff will be on hand to answer questions about postsecondary options, OSAP and financial aid, and returning to school as a mature student. They will also provide one-on-one help beginning the application process.
Visitors can also take an optional tour of the campus. Refreshments and a children’s craft table will be available and parking tokens will be provided.
