Georgian students celebrate new school year at Blue Mountain Resort Two new programs launched this semester

SGB-students-at-BMR_Sept-2015_12ForWebThis month, Georgian College celebrates its fifth school year start at the John Di Poce South Georgian Bay Campus. Students visited one of the community supporters who donated to the college’s first permanent campus in the region.

More than a dozen students experienced Blue Mountain Resort’s Base Camp attractions as part of the Georgian College Students’ Association’s (GCSA) back-to-school social activities.

GCSA director Keitha Atkins, a student in the Office Administration – Medical program, helped plan the event.

“It’s fun to bring students from all programs together and it helps with team building,” says Atkins.

She adds that since two new programs launched this semester, there is a lot more students to plan activities for.

The new programs are Business (Co-op) and Social Service Worker diplomas. New program development has blossomed since the opening of the Raglan Street campus.

Lynn Hynd, Campus Manager, says the increased study options are very popular among local residents.

“We anticipated about a dozen students for our first Social Service Worker intake and received 26,” she says.

Five years ago when Blue Mountain Resort pledged $100,000 in support of the new campus, staff knew the facility would play a large role in the community.

“It’s great that Georgian is growing and many students don’t have to move away for postsecondary education,” says Paul Pinchbeck, Vice President of Marketing for Blue Mountain Resort. “We have employees who are Georgian graduates and they not only enhance our business, but our community too.”

Full details of the 10 full-time programs and many part-time options available at the campus can be found on our website.
