Aug. 23, 2017
Georgian business and marketing professor Chris McBrien’s “Pop Goes Your World” podcast was named a finalist for a 2017 Podcast Award in the entertainment category. The 12th Annual People’s Choice Podcast Awards recognize the best podcasters in the world by allowing listeners to nominate their favourite podcasts across several diverse categories.
“It’s astounding that a podcast produced locally in Barrie can compete with podcasts from around the world,” says Chris. “In the new generation of multimedia, if you have an idea, you now have the ability to get your message out like never before. When you consider the sheer volume of podcasts being produced today and the calibre of competition in this space, it’s an achievement just to be recognized alongside such incredible programs.”
“Pop Goes Your World”, the pop culture podcast for the generations, began in July 2016. It features pop culture discussions about TV shows, movies and music from unique viewpoints and opinions from two different generations – Chris is a Gen Xer and co-host Yancy Eaton, a Fort Myers, Florida resident, is a millennial. The show has grown quickly since its inception and is now available across a multitude of platforms including iTunes, Stitcher Radio, TuneIn and many more.
Winners of the 2017 Podcast Awards will be announced during the Podcast Award ceremony, held on International Podcast Day, Sept. 30. The show will be produced live and streamed worldwide.
Chris is a podcast veteran and former Podcast Award nominee. He was the creator and host of the “Dear Mr. Fantasy” baseball podcast from 2012 through 2016. “Dear Mr. Fantasy” was a Podcast Award nominee in the sports category in 2013 and again in 2016.
