Georgian hosts fire safety demo

Georgian hosted a live burn fire safety demo recently in order to promote fire safety to students and members of the community.

Cabinetmaking students assisted in building the units that were staged as dorm rooms and the Georgian College Students’ Association helped out by providing furniture. Both rooms were equipped with smoke detectors, but only one had a sprinkler system.

The units were set on fire and allowed to burn for the average length of time it takes a fire truck to arrive on scene, highlighting the importance of fire safety and responding to alarms.

Barrie Fire and Emergency Service was on hand to narrate the demonstration and put out the fire. Learn more about fire safety.
