Georgian helps rescue Gert the goose

A Canada GooseFor several weeks, staff at Georgian’s Barrie Campus and the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre have watched a young, lone goose wandering the grounds around student residence. Affectionately known as “Gert”, the goose was shunned by its flock for having an injured wing.

While Gert seemed healthy and content around the residence, winter would have meant certain death. So Georgian recently invited a fine team of volunteers from Bear Creek Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary to bring Gert there for a veterinary examination.

Now, Gert has been transported to the Shades of Hope rehab centre, just outside of Barrie. They’re working to help Gert develop her flying ability. They’ve also housed Gert with another goose from Orillia. The two are getting along swimmingly.

If you want to help injured animals like Gert, make a donation to Bear Creek or Shades of Hope.
