Georgian College receives $1 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation to expand its Centre of Industrial Simulation and Prototyping

BARRIE, ON — Georgian College has received $1 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to expand its Centre of Industrial Simulation and Prototyping, fueling the region’s leadership in Industry 5.0 innovation and applied research, helping Ontario manufacturers adopt next-generation technologies faster and more effectively.

This investment is part of nearly $134 million in research infrastructure funding announced today by the Government of Canada through the CFI, supporting projects at 63 postsecondary institutions across the country. The investments help colleges like Georgian develop technology solutions that address the social, business, and environmental needs of Canadian industry and communities.

Through this funding, Georgian College will acquire advanced digital-simulation software and flexible manufacturing modules that expand the Centre’s ability to link virtual modelling with real-world prototyping and testing. These upgrades will allow companies to move seamlessly from concept to implementation – accelerating innovation, reducing risk, and strengthening supply chains across the region.

Following its recent designation as a Technology Access Centre by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the Centre is expanding its collaborative partnerships with the automotive, energy, and advanced-manufacturing sectors. These collaborations ensure Georgian’s applied research remains industry-driven, regionally relevant, and focused on building a sustainable, human-centric manufacturing economy.

With this new investment and a growing network of industry collaborators, Georgian College continues to lead Canada’s shift toward smart, sustainable, and human-focused manufacturing – preparing both businesses and students to thrive in the economy of the future.
