Sept. 22, 2015
Georgian College is hosting Green Energy Doors Open – a province-wide event showcasing sustainable energy projects in local communities – at the Barrie Campus on Oct. 2.
“The Green Energy Doors Open event allows the community to learn about sustainable programs and technologies happening right in their backyard,” says Ron Sky, faculty, Engineering and Environmental Technologies. “The event also allows Georgian and other industry partners to showcase state-of-the-art green technologies.”
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the amazing technologies Georgian has on campus, including the solar-assisted electric vehicle charging station, hybrid and full electric vehicles, and the geothermal heated building. Visitors can ask questions about the facilities and current research, discuss other sustainable technologies, and find out how Georgian is preparing students for the green jobs of the future.
The event will be held at the electric vehicle charging station in front of the Sustainable Technologies Building and in A138 from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Visitors can access the college property free of charge through the Duckworth St. entrance from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
“The event is about sharing local sustainable energy stories and letting people from our community see what’s already happening to power Simcoe County’s future prosperity,” says Suzanne Ainley, Project Manager, Skills for the Green Economy. “Through welcoming the community to hear about Georgian’s green initiatives and other success stories, we learn the benefits and can be part of the transition towards a green economy.”
