Essential fall sun skincare tips
Oct. 28, 2019
With busy home, work and school schedules, it can be easy to neglect your skin. However, even though it’s hard to find time for yourself, protecting and caring for your skin is crucial.
When temperatures cool in the fall it can be difficult to remember that your skin is still exposed to the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays, which can cause premature aging, sun spots and skin cancer.
With this in mind, here are some tips to help protect and care for your skin all year round.

1. Wear sunscreen
If you’re going to take any advice–wear sunscreen every day! You may be surprised to find out that your skin can burn, even on cloudy days. Look specifically for a sunscreen with an SPF 30 to 50 that is broad spectrum and water resistant. It’s also essential that you reapply sunscreen every two hours, as well as immediately after sweating.
2. Don’t forget your lips
Your lips need sunscreen too! A lip balm with a broad spectrum SPF is your best bet. Again, also make sure you reapply frequently.
3. Wear a wide-brim hat and sunglasses
Although you may like ball caps, they’re not the best for sun protection. Wide-brim hats are a better choice, as they help to cover your face from all angles. Sunglasses with UV protection will also protect your eyes reducing the development of wrinkles.
4. Treat sunburns
Even with prevention, sometimes sunburns are inevitable. To treat a sunburn properly apply aloe vera to the burned area and wear loose clothing to reduce irritation.
5. Don’t have a hot shower
Having a hot shower will only further dry out your skin. Instead switch to a cooler temperature shower to reduce breakouts and increase circulation, giving your skin a healthy glow.
6. Hydrate
Speaking of water, always remember to hydrate! You should aim for six to eight glasses daily to reduce dehydration which will show up on your skin. Ensuring your properly hydrated at all times, will keep your skin fresh.
7. Nutritional choices
Another way to improve your skin from the inside out is to feed yourself nutritional foods. Choose foods high in carotenoids, such as sweet potatoes, carrots and pumpkin, to improve your complexion.
8. Moisturize
It is essential that you moisturize all year long. Don’t forget this important step!
