Dr. Helen Pearce named new Dean, Liberal Arts at Georgian

Dr. Helen Pearce is the new Dean for Liberal Arts at Georgian College. Dr. Pearce will begin her new role on Monday, Nov. 6.
Helen brings with her over 26 years’ experience in the college sector. Prior to beginning her academic career, she held a series of increasingly responsible positions in broadcasting.
Most recently, Helen was Dean, Faculty of Arts, Media and Design at Fanshawe College. Her portfolio included the School of Language and Liberal Studies and the English Language Institute. Among many achievements, she contributed to the college’s Indigenous strategy and oversaw the launch of several new programs.
For seven years prior to this role, Helen was Chair, School of Design. Notably, she led program development – including two bachelor degrees – numerous community and international partnerships, and contributed to the planning of Fanshawe’s downtown campus, the Centre for Digital and Performance Arts.
Helen was Chair, School of Design, at Algonquin College. She also brings to the role experience working abroad, having held the position of Chair, Applied Communications Program, for five years in Abu Dhabi, UAE. She began her postsecondary career at Camosun College in Victoria, BC, as a faculty member.
Committed to lifelong learning, Helen holds a Doctorate of Education from the University of Calgary, a Master of Distance Education from Athabasca University and a Bachelor of Journalism (Honours) from Carleton University. Additionally, she achieved a certificate in Intercultural Studies from the University of British Columbia, a certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults from the University of Cambridge and a post-graduate diploma in Educational Technology from Athabasca.
Helen is committed to community partnerships, pathways for students and meeting learning outcomes through experiential and entrepreneurial activity. She’s actively engaged in research related to student success.
