Culinary student John Cooper takes first place with soup creation

After lots of hard work and two and a half months of thrilling competition, Culinary student John Cooper won first place overall in Georgian’s Soup’d Up competition for his creamed carrot soup with a hint of curry. Judges were Chef Philip Leach, Georgian Culinary co-ordinator, Ester Satter from Fresh-a-Fare restaurant and Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman.
The winner was awarded a $1,000 tuition prize (sponsored by the Henry Bernick Centre for Entrepreneurship), as well as a $500 cash award from Fresh-a-Fare, an appearance on Rogers TV Showtime, a baking kit from Canada Cutlery Inc. and a Cuisionx cooking kit from DirectBuy Barrie. The two runners-up (Kyle Passant with beer and cheddar cheese soup and Cory De Adder with his spicy cream of mushroom) received a $250 cash award, a baking kit and an appearance on Rogers TV Showtime.
