The postsecondary landscape is changing and the lines between a college and university education, blurring. Many believe collaboration can offer the best of both worlds.

More than 100 postsecondary leaders from across Ontario gathered at Georgian College May 19 to discuss developing and sustaining functional partnerships at a symposium entitled Colleges and University Partnerships: Measuring Success.

Along with lively panel discussions, delegates heard from keynote speaker Sheldon Levy, Deputy Minister of Ontario’s Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. Levy noted, “Fair partnerships are all about respect and trust. Both partners have to win.”

Georgian College was a pioneer of partnerships more than 15 years ago and currently collaborates with Central Michigan University, Lakehead University, University of Ontario Institute of Technology and York University on a variety of degree programs.

“As institutions working together in the true spirit of collaboration, we have the opportunity to share knowledge, dismantle silos, and open up even more doors of opportunity for the students and communities we serve,” said Georgian President and CEO MaryLynn West-Moynes.

College University Partnerships: Measuring Success was co-hosted with the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto.
