Brenda Burman is the new campus manager at Georgian College’s Orangeville Campus. She will continue to manage the Centre for Career and Employment Community Services at the Edelbrock Centre, a position she has held since 2011.
Her new position adds responsibility for postsecondary, corporate training and academic upgrading to her current portfolio of career and employment programs.
Burman graduated with a Masters in Leadership Studies from the University of Guelph in 2016. She and her family are long-time Dufferin County residents and she is a well-known community leader through her work in the career and employment program field.
Georgian currently employs more than 60 staff and faculty with responsibilities at two sites in Orangeville – the Orangeville Campus at 22 Centennial Rd., and the community hub located in the Edelbrock Centre at 30 Centre St.
Since joining Georgian College as a career development advisor and co-ordinator of a youth job fair about 17 years ago, Burman has expanded Dufferin County employment services from a single program to numerous programs and services. The employment centre is now supported by three different funders, provincially and federally, and provides programs and services to well over 1,500 job seekers a year in Dufferin. Programs also provide close to $1 million annually in hiring incentives that encourage local employers to hire, train and upskill new and existing employees.
“I look forward to my new role as campus manager and to supporting the programs and services Georgian offers in the community,” Burman said. “Both Georgian College sites in Orangeville have skilled staff and faculty who have a sincere interest in seeing students and clients accomplish their goals. I am thrilled to be working with them.”
Burman’s leadership in the community aligns with Georgian College’s strategic plan, which calls for the college to build strong community and industry connections. She is an active member of area committees, including DC Moves – Headwaters Communities in Action and The Coffee Hub social purpose enterprise.
Local amateur sport is another of her keen interests. She and her husband volunteer their time with Orangeville Northmen Minor Lacrosse and with Orangeville minor hockey and her two sons play on rep teams with both organizations. Burman also volunteers as tournament director for an annual lacrosse tournament that draws more than 800 players and coaches to Orangeville every June.
