Program description

In the two-year Sport and Recreation Facility Management Diploma Program, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and skills required for successful careers in recreation and facility management. Program courses integrate both theoretical concepts with practical applications, so that you’ll focus on the effective operation and management of municipal, private, and commercial recreation facilities. You’ll build the essential business and administrative skills required for the day-to-day operations in a sport and recreational facility, as well as knowledge of safety standards and risk planning to support the safe management of facilities. As a graduate of this program, you’ll develop the leadership and organizational skills necessary to manage a wide range of facility operations, from ice management to recreation planning, in environments ranging from community centers to sports complexes.

What are the admission requirements for the Sport and Recreation Facility Management program?

Sport and Recreation Facility Management admission requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature student status
  • Grade 12 English (C or U)
  • Any Grade 11or 12 Mathematics (C,M or U)

Minimum of 60% in Grade 11 College or University level Mathematics (MBF3C or MCF3M)

Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (19 years or older), and home school applicants may also be considered for admission. Eligibility may be met by applicants who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED, and equivalency testing. What field placement opportunities are available in the Sport Administration program?Georgian College Chevron

Barrie and surrounding areas host a number of sport organizations and clubs that work with Georgian to provide field placement positions to Sport Administration students.

Positions can include game day operations, administration, event planning, retail, team management and so much more!

How many hours of field placement experience will I complete?Georgian College Chevron

The first field placement (Field Placement 1) consists of 60 hours, and the second (Field Placement 2) is 120 hours.

Placements occur in the fall and winter semesters.

Are the field placements paid or volunteer positions?Georgian College Chevron

Both field placements in the Sport Administration program at Georgian are unpaid volunteer positions.

Is the Sport Administration diploma transferrable?Georgian College Chevron

Georgian is working at establishing pathways for Sport Administration graduates to pursue further studies at other postsecondary institutions.

In the past, graduates have gone on to study at various Ontario universities and the United Kingdom, but the opportunities are endless!

You might also be interested in complementing your Sport Administration diploma with a diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services or a graduate certificate in Event Management.
