Virtual Reality Educator (MC)
The next Virtual Reality Educator course will run from Monday, Feb. 6 to Saturday, March 25.
Before you decide to take an online course, it is a good idea to look over these minimum requirements to determine if you have or can acquire what you will need before you start the course. Here are a few ways to tell if you have what you need to take an online course:
- Do you have access to a virtual reality headset with six degrees of freedom?
- E.g. Oculus Quest
- Do you have access to a laptop or desktop computer, and an internet connection
- Smartphones and other mobile devices are not recommended for our online, remote-delivered courses.
- Have you ever participated in a virtual meeting using a microphone and camera?
- E.g. WebEx, Zoom, Teams, Skype, Google Meet, FaceTime, etc.
- Do you have a reliable internet connection that is fast enough for participating in virtual and virtual reality meetings?
- Are you comfortable doing all of the following?
- Creating, editing and saving Word documents or other types of files
- Playing YouTube videos on your computer
- Downloading and listening to music on your computer
- Searching for information on the web
- Sending emails
Class schedules for live, virtual events for the Virtual Reality Educator course are listed below. All other learning activities are online and asynchronous.
- Week 1: Tuesday, Feb. 7 – 5 to 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)
- Week 2: Tuesday, Feb. 14 – 5 to 6 p.m. (EST)
- Week 3: Tuesday, Feb. 21 – 5 to 6 p.m. (EST)
- Week 4: Tuesday, March 7 – 5 to 6 p.m. (EST)
- Week 5: Tuesday, March 14 – 5 to 6 p.m. (EST)
- Week 6: Tuesday, March 21 – 5 to 6 p.m. (EST)
Students in this course learn about virtual reality (VR) and how to use it in their teaching practice. Sometimes described as immersive virtual reality (iVR), VR is an experiential learning medium where students can practice processes/complete tasks or experience what it’s like to “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes”. Consequently, students explore the use of VR in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains, and, as educators, develop an understanding of its pedagogical potential. Students are required to have a VR headset to take this course.
