Course description

In this course, students focus on power quality infrastructure, primarily focusing on an AC powerline environment. A review of AC power basics leads students into a study of power quality, including transients, imbalances, surges, poor power factor, harmonics, resonance, and outages. Means of mitigating power such quality issues include surge protective devices, capacitor banks, grounding and bonding, reactors, filters, transformers, and UPS systems. Students learn to take measurements using various industry standard equipment, interpret data, and suggest mitigation strategies

Post Secondary level ELEC 1001 AC Circuit Fundamentals Minimum Grade of 50
