Program description

Georgian College’s Health Informatics program will equip you with the skills needed to thrive in the quickly evolving digital health world. You will gain skills and knowledge in the areas of healthcare delivery, information technology, and data analysis. You will explore clinical informatics, health information management, privacy and security, healthcare systems and information technology. Throughout your program you will gain hands-on learning by immersing yourself in case-studies and projects that address the complexities of emerging technologies in our healthcare system. In the second semester you will complete your capstone course by working through an industry project, exposing you to the steps of business analysis and change management in a real-world scenario. Upon graduation, you will have the competencies and professional skills required to be successful in the health informatics field.

  • Ontario College Diploma, Ontario College Advanced Diploma, Degree or equivalent in a Health, Management or Technology related field.

The Health Informatics program helps graduates develop the skills they need to manage healthcare data, improve patient care through technology, and support healthcare decision-making processes. Students will learn about electronic health records (EHR) systems, data security, and healthcare analytics, which are crucial in today’s digital healthcare landscape, preparing them to enter into a variety of healthcare roles with specific skills in a number of digital competencies. Graduates may find employment in the following positions:

  • privacy co-ordinator
  • training co-ordinator
  • clinical informatics co-ordinator
  • EMR/EHR analyst 
  • junior business analyst
