Course description

Students focus on promoting the social and emotional health of children from birth to 12 years. They learn how to develop authentic and responsive relationships with infants and children in their care. Students gain an understanding of what contributes to a child's sense of belonging, resilience and self-regulation. By comparing different caregiving styles, students determine how interactions can be improved to establish responsive relationships that respect and honour the diversity of children, families and communities. Students examine specific positive guidance techniques and discuss emerging issues in social-emotional health

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
