Course description
This course provides students with an overview of key concepts and principles of practice that are applied to therapeutic group work in the social service field. Students gain the opportunity to experience group process both as a group member and facilitator. The experiential learning process includes a life skills coaching model combined with examining group stage-related themes such as preparing members, forming group norms, establishing member goals, addressing confidentiality and trust related issues, and working with strong emotions such as conflict. Feedback on students' involvement in group process is provided by the professor and through peer evaluations

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
