Greenhouse Practices and Operational Fundamentals (Micro-credential) is for individuals with various experience levels from those new to greenhouse work to folks with hands-on experience in farming interested in greenhouse operations, sustainable food systems, and community-driven agriculture. It’s also suitable for mangers overseeing growers and making business decisions. Potential roles could include Greenhouse Technicians, Greenhouse Labourers, Head Growers, Greenhouse Managers, Food Security Coordinators, and Community Greenhouse Volunteers.
Graduates will be equipped to move into roles in sustainable agriculture and greenhouse operations, including Greenhouse Technicians, Food Security Coordinators, and Head Growers. Graduates could also pursue opportunities in community agriculture and reclamation projects, contributing to food security and sustainable food systems.

Course description
This micro-credential combines hands-on training with practical theory, helping participants understand the structural components and functions of greenhouses. They will develop essential skills in plant propagation, irrigation design, pest management, nutrient management, safety, and proper plant care, and through case studies, also learn how to evaluate the viability of greenhouse operations and make informed business decisions.

Prerequisites
Grade 10 completion
Physically able to stand for at least three hours and lift up to 15 kg
An interest in plant propagation, care, and learning basic business skills for greenhouse operations
Eligible to work in Canada
Proficiency in English
At least three years of work or volunteer experience in any sector, which can be non-consecutive and completed in Canada or abroad
Access to a computer an internet
In person modules of this micro-credential will be running at greenhouse locations. Participants will be responsible for transportation to and from the greenhouse locations for the in person modules
