Crisis Intervention/Suicide
MHCC 1006
Course description
Persons with mental illness may experience episodes of crisis when the acute aspects of their illness exceed coping mechanisms. In this course, students examine the growing evidence-based and values-informed knowledge that guides clinical practice. In doing so, students develop a deeper understanding of crisis intervention including strategies for determining risk for self-harm, stabilizing and de-escalating techniques. Services and practice models in crisis intervention and suicide prevention are also explored.
