Course description
In this course, students explore the evolving role that collections play in the relationship between museums and galleries and their communities. Students are introduced to the basic registration and documentation functions used to manage a museum or gallery collection, including a study of the acquisition process (selection, appraisal, and documentation) and the management of collections information. They are also required to consider concerns and questions around intellectual property rights. Topics related to the evolving roles of collections practices are explored with respect to decolonization, repatriation, and the deaccessioning of culturally significant materials
