Canadian Literature

HUMN 2000

Course description

Using a decolonized approach, students analyze contemporary short stories, a novel, poetry, and other genres. The course readings reflect diverse voices, with a focus on authors who are marginalized and racialized. Through close reading, students identify authors’ writing strategies, as well as themes related to Canadian issues and lived experiences. Using critical analyses and Indigenous teachings, students examine literature from historical, social, cultural, and personal contexts to uncover meaning and deepen understanding. In addition, students develop argumentation skills through academic writing practices.
