Course description

In this course students are introduced to key aspects of art gallery management. Students gain experience identifying appropriate funding sources through various granting organizations and sponsorships. The importance of developing and sustaining collaborations and partnerships with a diverse range of arts and community organizations is examined. Students explore the role of CARFAC (Canadian Artists' Representation) in generating program-related contracts and loan agreements. Project management techniques are employed to develop a project premise and rationale, critical path, checklist, and budget for an exhibition project. Students also identify target audiences, oversee marketing plans, and develop inclusive communication strategies for their capstone exhibition project. Students gain an overview of the roles and responsibilities of personnel in various public and private art gallery contexts. They are also introduced to risk management and liability with respect to public visibility and transparency

Post Graduate level MUSM 1004 Museum and Gallery Mgmt Minimum Grade of 60

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
