Students learn the conversion of one type of motion to another, including changes in rotational speed, direction, and torque. Students apply detailed material properties with stress analysis methods to make engineering judgements. Subsequently, specific components of machines, such as shafts and bearings and belts, chains and gears are addressed for mechanical design situations.

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
