Introduction to Policing

Students explore the importance of core values, ethical decision making and behavioural standards demanded of police officers. Students discuss general and specialized roles and responsibilities in policing to develop a broad understanding of the profession, including an examination of recruitment and various career opportunities in policing within the Canadian context. Furthermore, students review the Police Services Act to study the nature of police liability, discipline, conduct, governance and oversight.

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
