Incident Command
POLC 4003
This course develops students’ understanding of the policing role and operational safety in relation to vulnerability, interpersonal conflict and /or individuals in crisis. Students learn to recognize behaviours which indicate stress and may convey an individual's intention to act violently, deal concisely and expertly with crisis situations, and to develop negotiation and mediation skills applicable to policing. To fully understand the ways in which police can and should deal with complex situations, students will practice skills associated with operational communication to find ways of preventing and solving, or minimizing, problems that may escalate into crisis matters.
